BIO

Peg Benison is a Connecticut based fine artist, whose work focuses on the portrait and figure. After graduating from Holy Cross, Benison continued her studies at Parsons School of Design in New York. There she studied computer illustration and painting, concentrating on classical painting technique.

She began her career as an illustrator, creating computer illustrations and animations for children's educational software and print publications, working for Scholastic Inc. and McClanahan Inc. However, painting continued to be her true calling, and she chose to concentrate on fine art.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

In my recent figure pieces I have been exploring the expressive nature of the figure when everything else is stripped away and the painting focuses in on the figure itself, without an elaborate background, sometimes even removing color, as well, and working in black and white. These pieces concentrate on the figure alone in order to capture the emotional impact of the smallest gesture or slight change in expression, that we all register, sometimes without even noticing. In a distracting “always on” world , it is my hope, that these pieces will remind us of the quiet human connection that, regardless of language or culture, we all share
